 Nokia Asha 311 Out now
6th June 2012

The Nokia Asha 311 is an inexpensive feature phone that challenges low-end smartphones in terms of value for money, offering a lot of features for under €100 excluding tax and subsidy.

The Asha 311 is closely related to the new Asha 305 and 306 handsets, but it costs around €30 more. However, that extra money is well spent as the Asha 311 is a much better handset.

On the front of the Nokia Asha 311 is a 3.0" 240 x 400 pixel panel, but in the case of the Asha 311 it's a capacitive display which is much easier to use than the cheaper resistive panel found in the Asha 305 and 306. The display is also polarised to make it easier to read in sunlight. On the back is a 3.2 megapixel camera with VGA resolution video recording, which will be good enough for some decent pictures and YouTube clips.

Inside, the Asha 311 is a 3.5G capable device supporting HSPA high-speed data, the Asha 311 also comes with WiFi connectivity as well. The 1GHz processor is easily fast enough to power a handset such as this, so we anticipate that this might be quite a capable little device when it comes to gaming, social networking and browsing the web.

Nokia Asha 311 This is a Series 40 feature phone rather than a smartphone, but there are a pretty wide range of applications available for download from the Nokia Store and the Asha 311 has access to 40 free EA games and comes bundled with a free version of Angry Birds with 15 levels. There's also a "cloud accelerated" web browser, social networking applications and a media player built in.

The standard sales package includes a 2GB microSD card and a stereo wired headset. The Nokia Asha 311 measures 106 x 52 x 13mm and weighs 95 grams. Nokia say that the 1110 mAh battery is capable of giving up to 6 hours talktime and 32 days standby time on 3G.

Before you consider tax and carrier subsidy, the Nokia Asha 311 will cost around €92. If you add tax then you can expect it to cost around €110 SIM-free, that's only a little bit less than a low-end Android smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy Mini, but the Asha 311 is a better looking device and should be faster.

Nokia say that the Asha 311 should be available during Q3 2012 in dark grey, rose red, blue, brown and sand white colour schemes.
