Samsung P520 (SGH-P520)
Coming
soon 29th July 2007
The Samsung P520 is an elegant touch-screen
phone with a 3 megapixel camera. Fitting into the same
product range as the P310
"Card Phone" and bearing a resemblence to
the LG
Prada, the SGH-P520 can be considered to be something
of a competitor for the Apple
iPhone.
The large 2.6" 240x320 pixel touchscreen
is the most striking feature on the SGH-P520, along
with the strikingly minimalist design. As with the P310,
there's a carry case available which protects the
handset and also makes it look quite stylish.
The
SGH-P520 is quite compact for a large-screen phone,
measuring 88 x 54 x 8.9mm and weighing 102 grams. It
should be noted that the size and weight excludes the
case.
Of course, there's a multimedia player
and the Samsung P520 also has microSD expandable memory
and stereo Bluetooth. So, it looks to be a well-rounded
device.
There are a couple of drawbacks - the
first one is that this isn't a 3G phone, just supporting
GPRS and EDGE data. This means that web browsing speeds
will be quite slow. 12 months ago this wouldn't have
been an issue, but the truth is that 2007 has seen a
real boom in the take-up of 3G devices and sadly the
Samsung SGH-P520 just doesn't compete. Also, from what
we can tell the video capture resolution of the P520
is limited to relatively low resolution 176x144 pixels.
Samsung say that the maximum talktime
of the SGH-P520 is 3 hours with up to 9 days standby
time. Pricing and availability are not know at present.
