October 2012 Roundup |
1st November 2012 October saw perhaps the last major activity of 2012 as manufacturers announced devices to go on sale up to Christmas.
TabletsThe most unusual device of the month was the ASUS PadFone 2, a powerful Android smartphone that docks directly into the back of a full-sized tablet. Google and Samsung announced the powerful Google Nexus 10, with the highest resolution screen on the market. Apple updated their iPad lineup with the faster Apple iPad 4 and the slightly more pocket (and wallet) friendly Apple iPad Mini.
SmartphonesThe HTC One X+ is going to be one of the most powerful Android smartphones on the market when it arrives. At the other end of the scale, the Samsung Galaxy Music is a simple Android device with good audio features. The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini is a pretty shameful attempt to cash in on the Galaxy S III's "halo effect" with a rather dull phone. The Nokia Lumia 510 is the cheapest Windows Phone we've seen, although it runs Windows 7.5 and not the latest Windows 8. Finally, the LG-built Google Nexus 4 updates the "pure Google" Nexus range with an interesting but slightly flawed handset.
