The cheapest phone in the Nokia
Supernova range, the Nokia 7210 Supernova costs
around €120 (£100 / $200) before tax and carrier
subsidy. For this, you get a 240 x 320 pixel display
in 262,000 colours, a 2 megapixel camera, microSD expandable
memory, stereo Bluetooth, an F.M. radio, and a multimedia
player.
It is very similar in specification
to the 7310,
but the 7210 doesn't have interchangeable covers and
the display isn't quite as colourful. There are a few
other features where the 7210 doesn't quite measure
up, but we suspect that most people will find the devices
pretty closely matched.
It's quite a light phone, but somewhat
bizarrely Nokia quote the weight as 69.8 grams without
the battery. Given that the battery is a pretty useful
component, we think that perhaps you will want to carry
one around. The BL-4CT cell weighs around 20 grams,
bringing the whole handset up to an approximate 90 grams
or so.
At
10.6mm thick, the 7210 is slimmer than any other "Supernova"
handset, but it also has the shortest talktime at just
3 hours. Overall though, the 7210 is not a bad device
and we think that it will sell quite well.
Nokia say that the 7210 should be available
during Q3 2008 in "Bubble Gum Pink" and "Vivid
Blue" colour schemes.
The original Nokia 7210
Nokia's annoying habit of re-using model
numbers continues. The original Nokia 7210 (pictured
right) was launched in 2002 and was a very popular
and extremely distinctive fashion phone. The unusual
keypad arrangement looks a little like a spinal column,
it came with an FM radio and Xpress-on covers plus a
colour screen but no camera.
Second hand examples of the original
7210 are common. Try to order the right phone!
