Nokia 700

 Nokia 700 Available now
24th August 2011

Nokia claim that the Nokia 700 is the smallest smartphone in the world, but despite its compact size the 700 seems to be a pretty powerful device when it comes to specifications.

We can't be sure if Nokia's claims about it being the smallest is true, but in terms of volume the 110 x 50.7 x 9.7mm device is certainly very small. Yes, something like the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini has a smaller area when viewed from the front and it is certainly lighter, but the X10 Mini is almost twice as thick as the Nokia at 17mm, and we guess that overall volume is how Nokia are measuring it.

The specification of the 700 is pretty similar to the new Nokia 600, with a 3.2" 360 x 640 pixel touchscreen display, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p HD video capture plus GPS, Bluetooth, microSD expandable memory, an FM radio, multimedia player and a 3.5mm audio socket. The Nokia 700 supports 3.5G connectivity and WiFi plus it has NFC contactless technology built in, something that is likely to be a big growth area over the next few years.

Nokia 700 Although the display might seem to be on the smallish side compared with high-end Android devices, the 700 does use a ClearBlack AMOLED panel with Gorilla Glass on top which should ensure that it looks very sharp and vibrant.

The operating system is the new Symbian Belle platform which is more friendly and customisable than earlier versions of Symbian. The Nokia 700 has a 1GHz processor as well, so the whole set up should feel very quick.

It's quite a nice looking device, and it's certainly a good alternative to other "mini" smartphones that tend to have smaller screens. Symbian might not have the massive application library of Android rivals, but for most users the capabilities of the OS will be more than enough.

Nokia say that the 700 should be available during Q3 2011 in several colours for a price of €270 before tax and subsidy.
