Six new clamshells from Motorola

14th October 2004

Motorola officially announced six new clamshell handsets, the specifications for some of which have been leaked for some time. Essentially, the new handsets are upgrades of the popular V-series clamshells, which were already pretty good handsets so most of the improvements are limited but welcome.

Motorola V620

An upgrade to the mid-market flagship V600 handset, the V620 has an improved screen, new games and photo editing software. Like the previous model, the V620 comes with a VGA resolution camera, quad-band GSM and Bluetooth. The V620 should be available on most major networks. For more information click here.

Motorola E550

Although this is officially an "E" series phone, the E550 is the replacement for the V300 handset and is exclusive to T-Mobile. Reported to be a tri-band phone, it still features Bluetooth and the same large screen as the other V-series handsets, but has some enhanced media playback capabilities. The E550 is already available on T-Mobile througout Europe.

Motorola V547

This V5xx series handset features EDGE data support in addition to Bluetooth, VGA resolution camera and 176x220 pixel display. Since EDGE data support is one of the most distinctive elements of the V547, it's likely that release will be restricted to those countries with carriers who support EDGE.

Motorola V535

Early photopgraphs appear to show that the V535 is identical to the V300, but it comes in a "tactile" blue or black colour. Video capture and Bluetooth are included, and functionally the handset is similar to all the other V5xx series phones, except the V535 isn't tied to a particular carrier and should be available on general release.
