March 2012 Roundup |
23rd January 2012 After a very busy February, March was a pretty quiet month with only a handful of major announcements.
AppleThe third generation Apple iPad features improved performance, better cameras and a pin sharp retina display that has to be seen to be believed, although confusingly it isn't officially called the iPad 3, just the "new iPad". This year also sees the fifth anniversary of the Apple iPhone, a handset that changed the mobile phone world forever.
Other manufacturersThe LG Optimus L3 is an attractive but fairly basic Android fashion phone. The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 is a mini tablet, or a smartphone without a phone (depending on your point of view). Another Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Pocket is a fairly pointless addition to Samsung's low-end Android range. The Sony Xperia Sola is a midrange Android smartphone with a clever trick - a touchscreen phone that you don't actually have to touch. A version of the RAZR with a much bigger battery, the Motorola RAZR MAXX is heading for China at the moment, but we hope to see a much wider release of this impressive smartphone. Other newsWe took a look at JCB's new range of handsets coming out this year, considered the fate of struggling BlackBerry maker RIM, and examined a rather bizarre patent for ringing tattoos filed by Nokia.
